“Fall in love with Jill Shalvis! She’s my go-to read for humor and heart.”— Susan Mallery, New York Times bestselling author

Beloved New York Times bestselling author Jill Shalvis begins a new series—Sunrise Cove—set near beautiful Lake Tahoe, with a heartwarming story of found family and love.

During the snowstorm of the century Levi Cutler is stranded on a ski lift with a beautiful stranger named Jane. After strong winds hurl the gondola in front of them into the ground, Levi calls his parents to prepare them for the worst…but can’t bring himself to say goodbye. Instead, wanting to fulfill his mother’s lifelong wish, he impulsively tells her he’s happily settled and Jane is his girlfriend—right before his phone dies.

But Levi and Jane do not.

Now Levi’s family is desperate to meet “The One.” Though Jane agrees to be his pretend girlfriend for just one dinner, she’s nervous. After a traumatic childhood, Jane isn’t sure she knows how to be around a tight-knit family that cherishes one another. She’s terrified, and a little jealous. But an unexpected series of events and a host of new friends soon show Jane that perhaps this is the life she was always meant to have.

As Jane and Levi spend more time together, pretend feelings quickly turn into real ones. Now all Jane has to do is admit to herself she can’t live without the man she’s fallen in love with and the family she has always dreamed of.

Wow what a fabulous book! Once I started I couldn’t put it down. Jane’s entire life she was toss from one relative to another knowing she can only depend on herself. Meeting Levi during a horrible accident was life changing but could she learn to trust. Levi is back home at his parents request so why does being back feel like home to home. Throw in one beautiful traveling nurse and he has a new path for his life. Can he get Jane on board? Read it!!!

From a terrifying meet-cute through an extremely satisfying happily ever after, The Family You Make is a fantastic start to Jill Shalvis’s brand new Sunrise Cove series. From the first words, I felt connected to by Levi and Jane. I loved how through their shared—albeit unimaginable—experience on the gondola to getting to truly know each other that nothing in their budding romance felt fake or contrived. It came through as real, especially as they both worked through their past traumas and issues. There is so much more I could say about this fantastic book, but I don’t want to ruin the experience for another reader. Just know I loved it. I read it in one day and I can’t wait to see how this series unfolds.

The Family You Make is a great start to a new series from Jill Shalvis. Jane & Levi are two strangers trapped on a ski lift during a major storm. After Levi tells his parents that he’s engaged & Jane is the one, their terrifying ordeal comes to an end. Levi now has to figure out what to tell his parents to get out of what he thought was a death bed fib. After Jane agrees to a short stint of pretending to be his girlfriend, her feelings began to deepen for Levi & his family. I enjoy the character development & writing style of Ms. Shalvis. As always, the first book in the series introduces us to the main characters, the location & sets the scene for the series. Her descriptions of the characters & location allow you to bond with the characters & have you emotionally involved in the outcomes. After a start like this, I can’t wait for the rest of the series!

This author never disappoints. She has such a talent to tell stories about people with faults that bring them to life in your minds eye and help them through their journey to discover solutions to a happily ever after. This book was a great read with dialog that had me laughing out loud and family insights that had me pondering and taking notes for future reference. Great start to a new series.

I loved The Family You Make. You definitely get your bang for the buck as it is two love stories in one book. Jane and Levi and Charlotte and Mateo are characters that are intertwined in several ways. Jane and Charlotte live in the same house and both have traumatic backgrounds. Mateo and Levi also have a link to the past. Jill Shalvis draws you into the story immediately with the drama that leaves you on edge. I loved this 5 star read with all these wonderful characters.

I will say it took me a bit longer to be grabbed than usual for this story but once I got hooked I couldn’t stop reading! Jasper is a hoot Peyton is a doll Grandpa made me smile And Tess made me want a HEA for her! That being said Jane and Levi’s journey to their HEA was a windy road that made me stop and think about how lucky I am. Charlotte and Mateo are adorable and their story was icing. Thank you Ms Shalvis for another wonderful read!!!!!

I should have written this review a few days ago. But writing the review meant I had to move on. I don't want to move on. I am ecstatic that this is the first book in a new series. I cannot wait for book 2, book 3, book 4..... The Family You Make is a story about not fitting in. The Family You Make is a story of the struggles in a person's past, okay more than one person. Most important of all, The Family You Make is a story showing that blood doesn't always make a family. People make a family. Jane's walls are impenetrable after a past that left her heart crushed. Levi had been avoiding a family that loved him but didn't understand him. Escape brings them together where their lives hang in the balance. A lot can run through one's mind when you aren't sure if you are going to live or die. Decisions made can change everything or nothing. The Family You make is a journey of struggles, decisions, family, and friends wanting to be family. The Family You Make had me crying. The Family You Make had me laughing. The Family You Make had me hoping for the best but expecting the worst. The Characters had me wanting to move to Sunrise Cove. I want to become part of a Jane's made up family.
