A #1 New York Times Bestseller and New York Times Book Review Editors’ Choice!

Legendary storyteller Stephen King goes into the deepest well of his imagination in this spellbinding novel about a seventeen-year-old boy who inherits the keys to a parallel world where good and evil are at war, and the stakes could not be higher—for that world or ours.

Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a hit-and-run accident when he was ten, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from it.

Charlie starts doing jobs for Mr. Bowditch and loses his heart to Radar. Then, when Bowditch dies, he leaves Charlie a cassette tape telling a story no one would believe. What Bowditch knows, and has kept secret all his long life, is that inside the shed is a portal to another world.

Magnificent, terrifying, and “spellbinding…packed with glorious flights of imagination and characteristic tenderness about childhood, Fairy Tale is vintage King at his finest” (Esquire).

“Good, evil, a kingdom to save, monsters to slay—these are the stuff that page-turners are made from.” —Laura Miller, Slate

  • Only S King Book I Stopped Reading

    By nonicknameabailable
Always love S King’s book from his 1st published book. I could not get into this story at all, just bored with it. Moved on to Holly and loved it.
  • Misleading title…kinda

    By Boocr
Such a better book than I anticipated. The title is misleading…and yet not. I can find a way to like all his books, but this one was easy to fall into and enjoy, only to be sad when it ends just because it ends.
  • Couldn’t stop reading

    Just an imaginative treasure.

  • Love it all the way till the end

    By hotdoglady907AK
Whimsical, fun, attention grabber from the beginning. I didn’t want the land of Empis to end. Very different from previous SK books I’ve read but this novel comes with no disappointments. King delivers a wonderful story in a mesmerizing manner as always.
  • Slow

Too slow. Read 40% and lost interest
  • A good read

    By Choralriff
A good read. Nothing even close to vintage King, and certainly not horror. But still a good read.
  • First Time King Reader

    By Artistic Rising
An absolutely enchanting read. King’s command of words and understanding of character assumes the best of the reader, and pulls you along. I couldn’t put Fairy Tale down, not even if I wanted to. Readers be warned: page turner ahead.

  • I miss the original Stephen King

    By TarekHoteit
I don’t usually criticize authors but these recent books of Stephen King lacks the originality of Stephen King. I wasted time reading these.
