Sinclair Lewis, an American novelist and playwright, is well known for his intuitive and discerning opinions on American capitalism. His successful novels include Babbit and Arrowsmith, the latter being awarded the Pulitzer Prize (though it was refused by Lewis). Lewis is also the first American to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature.
Main Street reveals the story of Carol Milford, a city girl, as she marries and moves to a little town in Minnesota. Not accustomed to small-town America, she does everything in her power to reform the town.
